TAMING THE PROUD (2006)

by theStarM posted Aug 13th 2006 at 11:16am

Taming The Proud was my last “Brothel Jazz” Record. It was not long after the release of this record that I began working for Lauryn Hill, and then Chris Cornell, and onward. But, on this record is a song called “Good Morning Sunshine”. I am convinced that this is one of my most pleasantly simple and universal songs ever. No matter where I have played this song it’s impact is always one of smiles and toe-tapping good times. It has a solace to it that I love to sing every chance I get.

The rest of this record also served me well but looking back I can see this as a transitional record in someways. It might be the last bit of “Brothel Jazz” I ever wrote.

Georgia Drunk

by theStarM posted Aug 12th 2006 at 2:12pm

This is a long lost song from the Brothel Jazz Days. Written shortly after “Taming The Proud” was released, it always got the crowd in one hell of a flurry. The dancers on stage really like this one too. By “Georgia Drunk” I meant the kind of drinking they do down south, particularly in the smaller towns where everyone goes out to have a good time and mingle. Being from Los Angeles I’ve always had to work very hard to get people out of their shells. The good news is that if you can master the art of getting Los Angeles crowds to their feet you can do it anywhere, so, Thanks L.A.!

SICACEREMONY (2005)

by theStarM posted Oct 13th 2005 at 8:04am

As the years have progressed, my sound has changed and I have grown. However, along the way I’ve made records that people have really enjoyed. Now those records are out of print and impossible to find. So, Here you go. SICACEREMONY was the very first record I ever made as a solo artist.

I coined the phrase “Brothel Jazz” to describe this kind of music. It is very raunchy, and very much the sound and subject matter of a young man full of fire. I think this was my Bukowski era. Every American boy goes through one. Luckily I got mine on record. Hubris and Beauty.

For best quality the record is posted in M4A, however there is no video attached.
