Here’s a theme song I just composed for a Fighting Game Community TV Show. It was a welcomed break from working on ROAR. If you know anything about video games, you’ll definitely get a chuckle out of it, and if you don’t, just tap your foot.

Here is a new trailer from Ian Cofino the director of “I Got Next” the documentary about professional video game players that Kamasi Washington and I wrote the film score to. We’re happy to see the film moving along and securing a distribution deal through Mattoid Ent. Enjoy the new trailer.

I’m excited to announce that I will be performing at the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 L.A. Fight Club Event. This event will feature the latest build of MvC3, so that fans of the fighting game franchise can get their hands on it before it’s official release in mid-February.

As all of my fans know, I am a HUGE fighting game fan (and so are most of the guys in my band). In honor of this event, I decided to do something special, so Kamasi Washington, (my collaborator on the IGOTNEXT Documentary) and I composed a musical mash-up of the theme songs from the Capcom and Marvel worlds. We’ll also be including some of the music from AFROSHOTO (the IGOTNEXT Soundtrack) and more!

The event will be held in Downtown Los Angeles,

Club 740
740 S. Spring St. (@ Broadway)
Los Angeles, CA
Make sure to enter through the entrance off the alley. SEE YOU THERE!

AfroShoto Preview

by theStarM posted Oct 29th 2010 at 11:02am

Dear Street Fighter Communtiy,

Below you will find three preview tracks from the AfroShoto Album. This music was created to accompany Ian Cofino’s documentary I Got Next.

Written in collaboration with my good friend Kamasi Washington, the process of making AfroShoto was a blast! I’ve always enjoyed composing soundtracks to film and t.v. but this project was special to me because I was providing a score to the fast moving pace of a video game.

I consider fighting games the pinnacle of all competitive video games and it was pure joy to be able to provide some action packed music to accompany the likes of some of the world’s greatest fighters in the heat of battle.

I hope you all enjoy the preview, we hope to release the full 17 track album, quite possibly with additional remixes around the same time as the official release of the film (I’m betting sometime next year), so stay posted, and leave us a comment below and we’ll be able to keep you personally informed about release dates and such.

Enjoy,

Here is an interesting article written on an idea I presented to the audience at the most recent AFROSHOTO event. It’s wonderful to see how an Idea can spur such interesting conversation amongst people you don’t know. I commend this blogger for his eloquent article.

Enjoy,

Just a few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to attend an event called “Afroshoto”, held at Boardners down in Hollywood. The event featured a small invitational Super Street Fighter 4 Tournament—8 total players, single elimination—as well as a small concert by a group called the Miles Mosley Band (which I recommend highly).

It was all in all a very successful event, especially for a Sunday night, which is hardly a major bargoing night. The band was excellent, the tournament was impressive (and watching Justin Wong go all the way with Makoto, my character of choice, was nice), and it was awesome as always to be at a public gaming event.

The band leader said something interesting, though, as they were setting up. I can’t remember well enough to quote exactly, but the sentiment was something like this: For the first time in history, technology has advanced to the point that the toys of our childhood have evolved enough to remain our primary form of recreation as adults.

This stuck with me, long after the event itself. The more I think about it, the more I realize not only how true it is, but how important it is.

Here are some YouTube videos that are now circulating from the Afroshoto performance. Again, it’s so awesome to hear the band wailing underneath street fighter footage!!

Here is some unique footage from the AfroShoto event. What you’re seeing is people playing Super Street Fighter 4 live, with the I Got Next film score “AfroShoto” replacing the in-game music. It was a really fun event and we look forward to doing many more. It is a joy to hear my and Kamasi Washington’s music underneath it all because composing music for video games is a passion of mine.

Enjoy,

I Got Next: Street Fighter 4 Documentary

by theStarM posted Dec 12th 2009 at 9:33pm

I am excited to be writing the score for a movie all about Street Fighter 4 tournaments, and the professional players, yes PROFESSIONAL players that dominate this scene.

I’ve been a fan of Street Fighter games for many years, and obviously with its release on console (XBOX, PS3) the franchise got a huge boost.

This movie is an interesting project directed by Ian Cofino that looks not only at the tournament fighting scene but also at a particular group of men who have, for the most part, set aside their 9-5 lives to become the best players in the world.

I’d like to thank Gootecks (one of the world’s best players and promoters of SF4) for shining the light on this project for me. I look forward to bringing exciting and new music to this film so you can all understand the sheer difficulty of the game, and the intense action that it creates.

Miles Mosley
