Hello Friends,
I wanted to take a moment to shine a little light on a detail of the music industry that I think is always over-looked. YOU!
In my extensive touring around the world, I have noticed the difference in audiences and fans from country to country, and even city to city. International audiences (anywhere outside of the U.S.A.) have often been lauded as the “best” audiences worldwide, because of their interaction with artists and their innate understanding that it is the fans that are responsible for the success of their favorite artists. I say this because I feel that we in America have been lead to believe that as an audience member, or fan, we have no control over the success, or failure of our favorite acts. Instead we’ve been sold on the idea that massive corporate conglomerates decide what music we hear on the radio and what music we can buy in the store, leaving the internet as the wild west of marketing, promotion and distribution.
Although I won’t go into the details of the day-to-day operations of the industry, I do want to make one thing very clear. As an artist, I am significantly more interested in you “spreading the word” than I am in selling you widgets. I value the fan who tells 10 people “hey you gotta check this out” at the same level as the fan who buys a record. It is not just money that is the all empowering fuel of success, pure word of mouth makes it easier on an artist to book shows, reach larger audiences, and receive the attention that allows them to make better music for you.
Since launching my new site, I have noticed that I am getting a lot of word-of-mouth support from people all around the world, and I want to express my deepest gratitude. You have no idea the type of wonderful opportunities I receive simply because you let someone else know that I am an artist you enjoy. In particular I’d like to thank the following cites for being at the top 10 of my fan-base, purely because they took the time to tell their friends about me:
1. Los Angeles (USA)
2. Helsinki (FINLAND)
3. Seattle (USA)
4. Fauske (NORWAY)
5. Tiller (NORWAY)
6. London (ENGLAND)
7. Moscow (RUSSIA)
8. Munster (GERMANY)
9. Caxius Do Sul (BRASIL)
10.Paris (FRANCE)
I hope that I can continue to make music worthy of your praise and recommendation. This industry is not easy for independent artists but as long as you’re out there enjoying my music I will continue to perform!
Now, if you haven’t already, how about you tell 10 more people about some good music that you like?
Gratefully,
TheStarM: Miles Mosley
